Events in Tokyo to plan for

The springtime cherry blossoms (sakura) celebration or the Sumidagawa Fireworks Festival during summer is not to be missed. Spectacularly colorful displays, live performances, and multiple food stalls selling local dishes mark these events.

The Cherry Blossom Festival

Tokyo changes into a sea of pink and white during spring every year, as cherry blossoms bloom throughout the city. The Cherry Blossom Festival, or Hanami, is an adored custom wherein park-goers in Ueno and Shinjuku Gyoen get together for meals under these trees. Come to Tokyo at this season because it is beautiful when you see the cherry blossoms that are universally symbolic of life and its transient nature.

Sumida River Fireworks Festival

Every July Tokyo’s skies light up with the stunning Sumida River Fireworks Festival in which fireworks explode over the Sumida River banks drawing millions of spectators since 18th century. Among Japan’s oldest and most popular firework events, the display is characterized by bright intricate patterns beautifully illuminating summer nights in a spectacular pyrotechnic celebration.
