Kirkpinar Oil Wrestling Festival

Organized each year in Edirne, Kirkpinar Oil Wrestling Festival is believed to be one of the most significant traditional art forms in Turkey. It is held within the last seven hundred years, during summer months over a period of one week. Heểmiters, also called "pehlivans," get into wrestling after smearing themselves with olive oil and exhibiting talent and muscles. It is a wonderful feast marking the culture and history of Turkey which attracts many guests from all parts of the country and from abroad.

Republic Day

The 29th October corresponds to the Republic Day of Turkey which is commemorated every year on this day as the date of establishment of present day Turkey which dates back to the year of 1923. In the capital city of Turkey and other main cities of the country, parades, fireworks displays and concerts take place, with their grandest celebrations taken place in the capital Ankara and also Istanbul and Izmir. It is a day of celebration for all Turkish citizens, a day when every citizen looks back at how far the country has come and how far it is bound to go in the future.
