Ryanair Launches New Winter Routes 2024

Ryanair Launches New Winter Routes 2024: Milan Gets More, Bergamo Gets Less, and Michael O'Leary Wants Your Surcharges Gone!

Italy’s favourite airline (and let's be honest, probably its loudest) Ryanair has big plans for winter 2024! Like a chef tossing pizza dough into the air, Ryanair is launching 10 new routes from Milan Malpensa Airport, whisking travelers off to sun-drenched Fuerteventura, the ancient ruins of Athens, the festive squares of Budapest, and… wait for it… the winter wonders of Tallinn. Yes, Estonia! So, pack your thermals and sunscreen, because Ryanair’s got you covered—Mallorca to Marrakech and everywhere in between. The 10 new winter routes from Milan Malpensa Airport are to Athens, Budapest, Paris, Fuerteventura, Krakow, Mallorca, Marrakech, Reggio Calabria, Rzeszow, and Tallinn. 

If that wasn’t enough to get you rummaging through your sock drawer for your passport, Ryanair is also parking its eighth aircraft at Milan Malpensa. This move is set to boost their traffic by 10%, meaning 4.5 million eager passengers will be zipping around the continent, experiencing new cultures and, of course, Ryanair’s infamous legroom.

Bergamo's Bye-Bye to Seats

But not all Italian airports are basking in Ryanair’s wintery glow. Over at Milan Bergamo, it’s not all spritz and sunshine. Ryanair has decided to trim down its fleet there from 24 to 20 aircraft, causing a 5% decline in seat capacity. Why, you ask? Because Ryanair is redirecting its attention to airports that are friendlier to their bottom line (hey, it’s a business, folks).

Trieste & Reggio Calabria: The New Italian Darlings

With a twinkle in his eye, Michael O’Leary, Ryanair’s Group CEO, made it clear why Bergamo’s loss is Trieste and Reggio Calabria’s gain: municipal surcharges, baby! Airports in Friuli Venezia Giulia and Calabria have waved goodbye to these pesky fees, opening the floodgates to cheaper flights and more tourists—Ryanair tourists, to be specific.

O'Leary was quick to advocate for nationwide surcharge abolition, promising that if Italy ditches these charges at all its airports, Ryanair would happily throw $4 billion into the Italian economy. That’s right, 40 new aircraft, 250 new routes, and a whopping 1,500 jobs! In O’Leary’s words, "More planes, more jobs, and, of course, more of those iconic Ryanair announcements that you can barely understand over the crackle of the speaker."

In an aviation celebration that will most definitely set your desire to travel ablaze, airBaltic is starting to introduce these new cool features:

From Riga (RIX), Latvia:

  • Rzeszow (RZE), Poland: Launching on October 28, 2024. Polish your language skills and get ready for a journey!
  • Cluj-Napoca (CLJ), Romania: Starting May 2, 2025. Time to explore Romania’s medieval charm!
  • Stavanger (SVG), Norway: Take off from June 3, 2025. Watch out for those stunning fjords!
  • Mykonos (JMK), Greece: Beginning June 5, 2025. Sun, sand, and souvlaki await!

Route Frequency:

  • Most of these routes will operate twice weekly, with the exceptions are Vilnius–Chisinau, Tallinn–Keflavik, and Riga–Mykonos, which will operate once a week.

Finnair Expands Its Horizons: New Routes and Increased Frequencies

Finnair Expands Its Horizons

Hot news for the holidaymakers! For winter 2024 and summer 2025, Finnair shows its new traffic plan with more destinations than ever before. New services will be provided to Japan, Latvia, Dallas USA, Estonia, Lithuania, Finland and Norway.

Japan at a Glance

In summer 2025 Finnair will fly to Japan more often by adding additional weekly frequencies to Tokyo Narita. This means up to daily flights between both Tokyo Haneda and Tokyo Narita — giving travellers even greater flexibility and opportunity to discover this beautiful country. And that’s not all; Nagoya will also have a third weekly frequency so as customers can explore another part of this diverse nation like never before.

Discover Kirkenes in Norway

Finnair is also opening up Northern Norway with a brand new destination – the charming town of Kirkenes. Starting from the beginning of summer season 2025 onwards, three times a week Finnair is going to fly from Helsinki via Ivalo using a 68-seater ATR aircraft. This route opens Finnish Lapland’s enchanting winter wonderland and northern Norwegian fjords for Finnish and international travelers alike – while offering an excellent opportunity experiencing famous Hurtigruten cruises that sail to/from Kirkenes as well.

New Routes and Increased Frequencies:

“We are excited to add yet another destination which further supports our extensive Arctic network,” said Finnair Chief Commercial Officer. “This new route provides an easy way for travelers going up North Norway so it’s quick getting there from Helsinki.”

Baltic Boost

Additionally, Finnair is increasing frequencies on its Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius routes during both winter season 2024 and summer season 2025. Tallinn will see five extra weekly frequencies; Riga will have another five extra weekly frequencies; Vilnius gets two extra weekly frequencies making travel to these vibrant, history-rich cities even easier.

Dallas Gets a Winter Warm-up

For winter season 2024, Finnair is adding frequencies to its Dallas route, transforming the service into a year-round daily flight. Finnair’s flights to Dallas also give good connections onto American Airlines extensive network out of their Dallas hub for those travelling to the USA.

AirBaltic Unveils 11 New Routes for Summer 2024

The Latvian airline, airBaltic has just released its flight schedule for the next summer which is filled with new enthralling experiences. It is introducing eleven new routes that will link the Baltics to 70 splendid destinations in their network.

Do you know anything about the new routes? What about Riga being directly connected to Alicante, Tirana. Sofia, Ljubljana, Skopje and Pristina? Doesn’t it sound exciting?

Here’s a preview of what AirBaltic’s 11 new routes will offer:

• Riga – Alicante Spain (2 flights weekly; commencing February 27th, 2024)

• Riga – Tirana Albania (2 flights weekly; commencing May 2nd, 2024)

• Riga – Sofia Bulgaria (3 flights weekly; commencing May 2nd, 2024)

• Riga – Ljubljana Slovenia (2 flights weekly; commencing May 2nd, 2024)

• Riga -Skopje North Macedonia (2 flights weekly; commencing May 2nd ,2024).

• Riga – Chisinau Moldiva (2 flights weekly; commencing May 4th ,2024).

• Riga – Pristina Kosovo (2 flights weekly ;commencing on May 4th ,20124).
