We always like to set the mood when cooking so set your speakers to Kacumbali
Ingredients Matoke:
6 ripe matoke (green bananas) – the stars of our show, and they're not just for monkeys anymore!
2 tomatoes, chopped – because every good dish needs a little tomatoey love.
1 onion, diced – the unsung hero that adds a touch of tear-jerking drama to the mix.
2 cloves garlic, minced – because let's face it, everything's better with a little garlic breath.
1 green chili pepper, chopped – for those brave enough to spice things up a notch.
1 teaspoon curry powder – the spice that makes everything nice.
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder – because why not add a little sunshine to our bananas?
1/2 teaspoon paprika – for a hint of smoky sweetness.
Salt and pepper to taste – the dynamic duo that never fails to save the day.
2 cups water or vegetable broth – because every dish needs a little liquid love.
Fresh cilantro for garnish – the fancy frills that make our dish Instagram-worthy.
Instructions Matoke:
- Peel the matoke and chop them into chunks – let's give those bananas a makeover they won't soon forget!
- Heat up some oil in a pot and toss in the diced onions and minced garlic. Let them sizzle and sing like they're auditioning for the next cooking show.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and green chili pepper to the pot – it's like adding the supporting cast to our banana bonanza!
- Sprinkle in the curry powder, turmeric powder, paprika, salt, and pepper – let's give those bananas a flavor makeover they won't soon forget!
- Throw in the matoke chunks and give everything a good stir. It's like a banana bash in a pot!
- Pour in the water or vegetable broth and bring the mixture to a simmer. Cover the pot and let it cook until the matoke are tender and cooked through – because even bananas need a little tender loving care.
- Once the matoke are cooked to perfection, garnish with fresh cilantro – because every dish needs a little greenery to brighten things up!
- Serve your Matoke hot and steaming, and get ready to go bananas with delight! Whether you pair it with rice, chapati, or a side of greens, get ready to dig in and enjoy the hilariously delicious flavours of Uganda!

Uganda Airlines Expands Regional and Long Haul Connectivity
Uganda Airlines Expands Regional and Long Haul Connectivity -
Uganda Airlines, the national airline of Uganda, has announced a bold plan to develop its network by opening new routes to major cities in Africa; this is intended to create a strong regional network that will serve as feeder services for its long-haul flights including London, Mumbai and Dubai.
A relatively young carrier; Uganda Airlines is a revival of the original Uganda Airlines which was in operation from 1977 until 2001. The current version began flying in August last year and since then it has been taking steps towards widening its coverage within Africa. This growth of networks represents a significant turning point in the airline’s expansion strategy as well as cementing its status as an important connector on the continent.
New Routes & Timetable Uganda Airlines Expands Regional and Long Haul Connectivity:
- Abuja – Nigeria: From September 12th, 2024, there will be two weekly flights between Entebbe (Uganda) and Abuja (Nigeria). This will boost connectivity into this region which previously had little air service. In addition to Lagos flights operated by this carrier; Abuja becomes another gateway to Nigerian market for Uganda airlines.
- Lusaka – Zambia / Harare – Zimbabwe: Starting September 25th next year there will be direct flights linking Lusaka with Harare while each route experiences four weekly unique triangular operations on Entebbe-Lusaka-Harare sector; one city may be connected back through either Lusaka or Harare before returning back to base at Entebbe. Such arrangement ensures efficiency in terms of utilization of resources vis-à-vis demand patterns from traffic flows between these two countries.
Targeting Underserved Routes:
The other thing which Uganda Airlines is doing is concentrating on underserved destinations so that they can offer cheaper fares thus making travel more affordable for people who live in those areas. For instance, Abuja route will provide a link between East and West Africa thereby giving travellers an option that is less costly when compared with other options which are currently available. By focusing on these neglected markets; Uganda Airlines wants to position itself as one of the leading low-cost carriers in Africa that provides convenient connections throughout the continent by air.
Building Connections through Collaboration:
Apart from enhancing passengers’ seamless connectivity experience; this move will also lead to increased fleet effectiveness as well as profitability. It is with regard to its long haul flights that Uganda airlines seeks to establish a strong regional network.
One of the growth strategies for Uganda airlines among others has been entering into different interline agreements. By March 2021, the carrier had already partnered with Emirates Airlines while by August 2021 it had incorporated Qatar Airways, Hahn Air together with APG Airlines of France among others in this category. Talks were still ongoing over interline agreements with Air Tanzania alongside Precision Air where else South African Airways was under negotiation for interlining come July 2024.
Through such expansions coupled with strategic partnerships; Uganda airlines shows its commitment of becoming a key player in African aviation industry through provision of better connections thus triggering economic growth across the continent.

New baby Gorilla Born in Bwindi National Park
Did you hear the latest news out of Uganda? Get ready for a cuteness overload: the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has just announced that a baby gorilla was born in Bwindi National Park!
This precious little one is a part of the Mukiza Family, which lives in the Ruhija sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. According to UWA spokesman Bashir Hangi, Tomvi – the mother – gave birth to her healthy baby on Valentine’s Day. The arrival of this gorilla baby has brought happiness not only to conservationists and Ugandans, but also tourists!
At first, UWA field teams had difficulty determining the sex of the newborn — understandable because gorilla parents are very protective. But there’s no need to worry because Uganda Parks’ most recent update settles it: it’s a girl!
With this new addition, the Mukiza Family now has 19 members! Stuart Nayebare couldn’t hide his joy as he said that this birth shows many years of successful conservation.
And guess what? This is great news for you adventurers who have been waiting all your life to trek through a tropical rainforest and meet these amazing creatures face-to-face!
But why make such a big deal about gorilla births? Well, it’s something to celebrate! Unlike other animals in the wild, gorillas only give birth to one baby at a time — so each newborn is very special.
Now let’s take you back to last year; 2020 – that pandemic year which saw more than just COVID-19 hit our nation. It turns out that Uganda enjoyed quite the baby boom during those tough times too! Bwindi National Park alone recorded seven births in just six weeks which led some people into thinking whether primate parks closure could have contributed to this spike in numbers.
