Many notable celebrations take place in the country such as the weekend beer drinking contest and the Ommegang which performs medieval acts in the streets of Brussels.

Ommegang Festival

Every July, Brussels is host to the Ommegang Festival, which includes a spectacular, historical procession that has been around since the 16th century. This event features the triumphant return to the city of Emperor Charles V, with parades, colorful costumes, and jiggery pokery. The climax of the event is at the Grand Place and it is crowded by local or foreign people wishing to enjoy the scene of history returning again.

Festivities in Ghent

In the month of July every year, Ghent celebrates Gentse Feesten, a ten-day cultural festival that takes place every summer, when such activities include music, street performances and theatre. It’s one of the biggest city festivals in Belgium and visitors both local and foreign flock in the city to enjoy the festival.
