Kurentovanje Festival

Among the brightest and most revealing events in Slovenia, Kurentovanje is observed in Ptuj, one of the towns almost at the end of February of the first or second week of March. It refers to the conclusion of winter and the introduction of spring. The audience also dresses in oversized furry outfits as well as usage of masks. This ancient festival is inscribed by UNESCO and forms a part of Slovenia’s culture.

St. Martin’s Day

November 11 is known to be also the feast day of St. Martin, which is related to one of the biggest wine festivals in Slovenia. It is that day, that is recognized as the turning point in the calendar, when grape juice turns and becomes wine. Various towns and villages, mainly in wine-growing areas of Maribor and Goriška Brda, offer wine, celebrations, and tastings. This is the period when both locals and tourists get together and participate in the traditions around the boundaries of Slovenia, which is winemaking.
