Great Transfiguration Project Egypt: From Mountains to Masterpiece!

Get ready to witness the ultimate makeover of St. Catherine in South Sinai, as Egypt rolls out the red carpet for spiritual seekers, eco-tourists, and wellness warriors alike! Dubbed the Great Transfiguration Project, this colossal initiative is transforming the scenic mountain landscapes into a dream destination fit for heavenly beliefs, environmental retreats, and maybe even a selfie or two with a camel.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and his A-team of state officials, including Minister of Housing Sherif El-Sherbini, are hard at work, making sure this region shines like the star it was always meant to be. Think of it as Egypt’s answer to combining spiritual enlightenment with a little bit of luxury—because who says you can’t find inner peace while staying in a 5-star eco-lodge?

What’s on the (Spiritual) Menu?

First up, the Visitor Center—a buzzing hub that’ll cater to all your touristy needs. Need a coffee? Hit up the cafés. Forgot to book a flight? No problem, they’ve got booking services too. Looking to buy a memento? There are shops galore. It's basically your one-stop-shop for both snacks and enlightenment.

For those craving culture, the Peace Building and Square awaits! It’s got everything from a museum to a theater, with a few meeting rooms tossed in for those deep, philosophical conversations (or maybe just a break from all that sightseeing).

But if you really want to kick it old-school, head over to the Wadi Al-Deir area. This spot is pure adventure—complete with a scenic walkway and, wait for it, a camel stable! That’s right, when in Sinai, why not embrace a little four-legged travel?

Eco-Luxury, Moses-Approved

If you’re into luxury with a side of eco-friendliness, the eco-lodge extension is calling your name. It comes with 192 eco-rooms, 56 fancy suites, and a desert garden so zen it might as well be curated by Mother Nature herself. Follow in the footsteps of Prophet Moses on a landscape walkway that ties the whole lodge to the equally fabulous Mountain Hotel, which offers 144 rooms and suites perfect for unwinding after your desert adventures.

On top of that, the tourist resort on the plateau is serving up cozy villas, chalets, and a 1200m² reception area where you can kick back in style while soaking in those panoramic mountain views.

The Bazaar is Back

What’s a trip to Egypt without a little shopping spree? The tourist bazaar covers a sprawling 1500m², filled with 16 bustling market stalls that are just begging you to haggle over souvenirs, local crafts, and maybe even some fresh baklava.

Feeling at home yet? The residential neighborhood of Al-Zaytuna features 21 hotel complexes with a whopping 546 cozy homes. So, if you’re thinking about making a permanent move to this spiritual paradise, they’ve got you covered.

A (Holy) New Era

St. Catherine’s spiritual side gets a nod too, with the Holy Valley Mosque towering over a brand-new heritage town center. Surrounding it are upgraded shops and bazaars, blending tradition with modern vibes in perfect harmony—just like that cool, tranquil feeling you get when you find the perfect falafel.

Infrastructure: The Unsung Hero

Behind the scenes, the nuts and bolts of this project are getting a serious upgrade too. They’re paving roads, safeguarding against floods, and even beefing up St. Catherine International Airport’s road network so you can zoom straight from the runway to your mountain retreat.

All of this magic is backed by the New Urban Communities Authority, aligning with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s vision to turn this region into a global hotspot for spiritual, cultural, and eco-friendly tourism.

Egypt’s Gift to the World

In a speech worthy of framing, Prime Minister Madbouly called this project “Egypt’s gift to the world and all religions”. After all, it honors the region’s rich history—Islamic, Christian, and Jewish alike. So, whether you're coming for a spiritual awakening, a bit of ancient history, or just a killer camel selfie, the Great Transfiguration Project Egypt is Egypt’s way of saying, "Welcome to our little slice of heaven."
