IndiGo Expands with Flight To Amsterdam : Amsterdam, Dreamliners, and a Shot at Long-Haul Glory

IndiGo, the airline best known for packing people into A320s like a game of Tetris, is now aiming for the big leagues. That’s right—India’s largest low-cost carrier is finally stretching its wings (and its legroom, hopefully) with an international expansion that includes flights to Amsterdam, Boeing 787 Dreamliners, and future Airbus A350s.

From Budget Routes to Business Class Dreams

IndiGo has officially asked for daily slots at Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS) from Mumbai and Delhi, setting the stage for non-stop flights to Europe. This is a bold move, considering Schiphol is as congested as an Indian railway station during festival season, but hey, IndiGo likes a challenge.

Wide-Bodies, Wet Leases, and a Lot More Blue in the Sky

To pull off this long-haul adventure, IndiGo is wet leasing six Boeing 787 Dreamliners from Norse Atlantic Airways, with the first two arriving in March 2025. Initially, these big birds will fly to Bangkok and Singapore, but soon, they’ll be making their way to Europe, giving passengers an IndiGo experience at 35,000 feet—with actual reclining seats!

But that’s just the start. IndiGo is also getting its first Airbus A321XLR later this year (great for mid-haul routes) and has A350s lined up for delivery in 2027, proving that the airline is ready to go from "low-cost king" to "global contender."

Taking on the Big Guns

Right now, IndiGo is already flying to places like Baku, Istanbul, and Tbilisi, with a solid codeshare deal with Turkish Airlines that helps passengers reach 30+ European cities. But that’s not enough when you’re competing with Air India, Emirates, and Etihad, who have been ruling these routes like royalty.

IndiGo Expands with Flight To Amsterdam

That’s why IndiGo is flirting with Air France-KLM and Virgin Atlantic, hoping for a partnership that could bring better slot access, seamless transfers, and even more baggage allowance to forget at the airport.

What’s Next?

With new planes, new routes, and a whole new attitude, IndiGo is done playing domestic—it’s ready to take on long-haul routes like a true global competitor. So, if you’ve ever dreamed of flying to Amsterdam on an IndiGo flight (and not just as a layover), your time may finally be coming.
