Auckland: Turkish Airlines Goes Down Under (Sort Of)
In a move that will delight hobbit enthusiasts and adventure junkies alike, Turkish Airlines is headed to Auckland! Starting later in 2025, this long-haul route will initially swing through Singapore for a quick pit stop before zipping over to New Zealand. Eventually, the plan is to go non-stop, thanks to their fancy new Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, which can fly over 10,000 miles without a coffee break.
Why Auckland? Well, New Zealand doesn’t currently have direct flights to Turkey, so Turkish Airlines decided to step up and be the hero we didn’t know we needed. Whether it’s Turkish delights or Kiwi pavlovas you’re after, this connection is opening up a whole new world of travel possibilities (cue Aladdin soundtrack).
Minneapolis: From the Land of 10,000 Lakes to Istanbul
They have also recently expanded their services into the United States, with Turkish Airlines gearing up for a flight into Minneapolis. This officially marks the 16th US city Turkish Airlines now services, which for all the counting folk out there, is one more than a rugby team. As early as April or May of 2025, it looks like Kebabs are going to become quite the favorite for Minnestotans, who will also now have an opportunity to ditch their snow shovels and hot dishes for a stroll through the Grand Bazaar.
Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport is a hub that’s been patiently waiting for a connection to Turkey, and now it’s finally getting its moment. This move reinforces Turkish Airlines’ status as the go-to carrier between the U.S. and Turkey, solidifying its reputation for connecting the dots on the world map like a pro at Connect Four.
Planes, Plans, and Global Domination
Turkish Airlines has been on a roll lately, expanding its footprint in both the South Pacific and North America. Last year, they added Melbourne and Sydney to their network (because who doesn’t love an Aussie detour?), and now Auckland feels like the natural next step.
And let’s talk about those new A350-1000s for a second. These ultra-long-range aircraft are basically the marathon runners of the skies, ready to cover vast distances without breaking a sweat—or stopping for refueling. Non-stop flights from Istanbul to Auckland? Yes, please.
