Visa Free Travel in Kenya

Visa Free Travel in Kenya - President William Ruto of Kenya made a significant announcement recently declaring the start of a visa-free policy for Kenya in 2024. Following this announcement, an electronic travel authorisation (ETA) system has been introduced to help facilitate the pre-identification of all travellers planning to visit Kenya.

As per the recent update from the Ministry of Interior and National Administration of Kenya, close to 10,000 ETA applications have been submitted, with more than 4,000 already successfully processed. The order of processing is being determined based on the travel itineraries provided by each applicant.

The introduction of the ETA aims to establish a fair, faster, and reliable system, addressing both security concerns and other strategic interests of Kenya.

Uniform entry requirements and fees now apply to all foreign nationals, excluding East African Community (EAC) citizens, with an ETA fee of $30. Processing time has significantly decreased from 14 days to a maximum of 72 hours under the new system.

To apply for an ETA, travellers must possess a valid passport and provide contact details, proof of accommodations, and flight information. Applications should be submitted at least three days before travel, allowing ample time for authorisation. Travelers can apply up to three months in advance, ideally after booking accommodations and transport tickets.

It is crucial to note that the ETA is mandatory for all foreign visitors, including children and infants. If travellers already hold a valid visa for Kenya, they may continue to use it instead of obtaining an ETA.

For ETA applications, individuals can visit the etakenya website.
